Assignment 2 - Jin-Xiang Shr

In the 2nd class, the question was: What is the mind-to-mind transmission? My interpretation: When the Master's mind is made pure and a disciple models his cultivation after that of his Master, that is the transmission of the Dharma. The Dharma is the teaching of the mind, hence when there is true cultivation at the root level, the teaching is transmitted.

Venerable Master's virtue touched the hearts of beings from all walks of life on a personal level--and of those from other realms as well. It's natural that those who were touched feel great gratitude such that they wanted to repay Ven. Master's deep kindness and compassion. With his virtue, affinity is built; from his affinity with multitudes of beings naturally the Buddha's teaching is spread far and wide. One example is the establishment of the Gold Coast Dharma Realm in Australia. The 22-acre land was acquired in 1996 by his disciple named Rosaline Kang, who officially donated it to DRBA in 2007 to repay Venerable Master's kindness.

Last Sunday (6/20/2010), DM Sure said Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in Australia. He recently obtained his Permanent Residency in Australia which will enable him to spread the Mahayana Buddhism there. DM Ch'ih lectured Shurangama Sutra at GCDR for four months in 2006. (See October 2006 VBS issue #437, pp 42-44.)

Avatamsaka Sutra recitation sessions in Chinese and English have been held there yearly since 2007--the Chinese session being led by DM Liang (happening next month). I myself went there in 2007, 2008, and 2009 to help with the English recitation of the Avatamsaka Sutra. Here is the 2008 photo of the English recitation group, made up of those from Malaysia and Australia. These photos were uploaded from GCDR website where you can see more photos. http://www.dharmasite.net/GoldCoastDharmaRealm/7_08/index.htmmasite.net/GoldCoastDharmaRealm/7_08/index.htm

  1. Respect and Gratitude are two of the most valuable 'assets' one could have and the Master showed this throughout his life which are great teachings for the rest of us. DM Heng Sure becoming a major Buddhist influence in Australia is a significant way to spread Dharma to the west.
